INSTANT-TOWN MOVEMENT GATA

Gata presents a fresh and light way to live 1 day of your vacation, because sometimes a few moments are enough for a total disconnection.

Come one day to Gata. Buy. Eat. Take a picture. And continue your way. What do you think about the plan?

Year after year, Gata is a must-see for tourists who come to the Marina Alta for the summer. If you want to rest a day of beaches and bustle, we recommend that you come to know our crafts, tradition and culture of town.

With the instant-town movement we want to promote tourism in Gata, showing you how to immerse yourself in our roots simply by spending a day with us, in our shops, bars, cafes and on our streets.

Live an authentic village experience

We make it easy for you! We are going to tell you how to spend a day in Gata without missing out on anything the town has to offer.

As soon as you arrive in Gata, we recommend that you go to one of the town’s bakeries to buy one of the homemade breads they make. They will come in handy to accompany something that we will recommend a few lines below.

Next, we continue with the most typical thing we have in the Valencian Community: “Almuerzo”. Here, this step is sacred! Between 9:30 am. and 11 am. you will find the bars full of people with friends or co-workers. Olives, peanuts, sandwiches and beer or toast fill the tables. You can sit on the terrace in the sun or indoors, in both places it will taste just as good.

When you finish, it’s time to walk the streets. You will see all the houses with balconies full of flowers, the Church plaza, the Plaza Nueva with benches where you can sit down to rest and, above all, shops, some of which are more than 100 years old, which are still carried by the new generations today who one day decided to start a business.

You will find everything: Bags and accessory stores, clothing stores, jewelers, greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers, bakeries, drug stores, stationery stores, opticians, motorcycle and bicycle shops…

Now it’s time tell you what to accompany that homemade bread that you will have bought when you arrive in Gata. If you come here and you are a fan of cured meats, you won’t be able to leave without trying the Sobrasada from La Marina. You can stop by one of the town’s butcher shops and buy a piece of this sausage made by hand and with ancient recipes. In this post we explain everything about it.

If something characterizes Gata de Gorgos, it is the craftsmanship that, for many years, marked the way of life thanks to all the factories that existed. It came to have 10 hat factories, two guitar factories, seven handbag factories, and one furniture factory, among many others.

You cannot miss the palm and wicker shops on the road. In the 1950s and 1960s, the entrance to the town was quite a spectacle, full of wicker shops on each side with all the bags, hats and baskets hanging in their windows or scattered around their doorways. Today it remains so, with its same essence and its same craft products.

If what you want is to buy the summer accessory, Gata is the perfect place for it! Among all the hat factories in town, you will surely find yours.

Time to eat!

After touring the entire town and its shops, we already have the “almuerzo” on our feet! It’s time to eat and thanks to the great variety there is, you can choose from many options: Pizza, meat or fish, rice or tapas.

And for dessert, what better than an ice cream or a lemon granita or coffee in an ice cream shop with more than 60 years of history? Ca El Tramusser has been keeping the most secret recipe of the town since it opened and today it is a meeting point for the residents of Gata during the summer days.

Walk along the Gorgos River

Something very characteristic of Gata is the Gorgos River. Most of the year it is empty and with its impressive skeleton exposed, but sometimes in winter, when it rains a lot, it comes down from the mountains where it is born and fills the town with the joy of seeing it full, even if it is only for a few days.

On Penyó Street, you can go down and go along it, having beautiful views of the river while you take a walk, making this a perfect finale for the day.

You’ve already spent a day in Gata! What do you think of our Instant-town movement? Will you join it? Don’t forget to tag us if you come to see us!!
