In Gata we are a town of traditions and customs and, in the month of September, there are 3 classics that we always fulfill. In today’s post we tell you a little more about them.🥳
ESCALDÀ
September arrives and with it, the time to blanch the grapes to turn them into raisins and to tread the grapes to turn them into wine. This centuries-old tradition, which has passed through different generations, has a whole process that continues today to maintain the spirit of the “escaldà” of yesteryear.
It is made with the Muscat grape, a very traditional, popular and typical grape in Gata that, in addition to being used in the “escaldà”, is eaten directly with a good piece of bread, some typical savory baked or any other food, thanks to its aroma and sweet flavor.
The famous Mistela is also made with this grape, a liqueur with a characteristic sweet flavor and a distinguished aroma that make it perfect to enjoy after lunch and dinner, along with coffee, which is when it is traditionally drunk.
RETURN TO THE MOUNTAIN
The summer heat is beginning to give us a break and mountain lovers are once again taking routes and taking walks through our beautiful area of Serrillás, visiting points such as the Font de la Mata or the Tossal del Moro, from where you will have spectacular views of the mountain of Montgó, Gata and even the sea when Jávea is also seen. In this post we tell you a little more about this route.
You also want to take walks around the town and its surroundings, so another idea is to take a walk to La Rana, famous for its centuries-old eucalyptus. This area also used to be used in Muslim times as an irrigation system for all the orchards in the area. This system included two wells, a windmill, the fountain and the washer.
