Today we bring you a perfect guide to enjoy a day in Gata de Gorgos. Our town stands out not only for its beauty and traditions, but also for its vibrant local commerce. So, get ready for a day full of culture, shopping and fun! Here we leave you 5 essential plans to spend a perfect day in Gata.

TO HAVE BREAKFAST IN SOME OF THE MOST MYTHICAL BARS

The day begins by filling your stomach in one of its most typical bars such as Ca Martí or Bar España. Lunch is our favorite meal and has already become an essential part of everyday life. A toast or a sandwich with a good coffee will fill you with energy to explore the streets of the town.

You can also buy some homemade empanadillas or any bake in bakeries such as El Forn de Xaro, Panadería Andrés Mulet, Dulcipan or Pastisseria La Pau and go to have breakfast in a quieter area like the river park. Sit at one of the tables or on the grass and enjoy the nature and tranquility that you breathe there.

ROUTE THROUGH THE TOWN

With a full stomach, we can now discover Gata de Gorgos. The “Plaça Vella” with the Church of San Miguel Arcángel, the views of the Gorgos River from one of the bridges that cross it or the Hermitage of the Santísimo Cristo del Calvario are some of the essential points of your visit.

If you like hiking, you can do routes like the Font De la Mata, which you can find in this other blog post.

VISIT THE CENTENARY STORES

Gata stands out for its countless shops, many of them with more than 100 years of history, such as the butcher shops of Ca Peixet, Polaca, Silvestra or Ca Curro, where you can buy handmade sausages with the same recipes as always. You also can’t miss the Plaza de España, famous for its wicker shops where you can find bags, carrycots, lamps and endless items in stores such as Artesania Maruja, Artesania Monserrat and Reciclajes y decoration.

Gata is also famous for its hat factories such as Monica Hats, Sombreros Mengual, Signes Hats or Costa y Soler and bags such as Kbas or Matties Bags so you cannot leave town without stopping by to take one. There are stores like Tonia’s where you can get lost for a little while looking for yours.

Gata has numerous shops so everything you need such as stationery stores, computer and appliance stores, fashion or furniture stores, hairdressers, pharmacies,… everything!

TRY THE LOCAL GASTRONOMY

The Valencian Community stands out for its Mediterranean Gastronomy and once here, you have to try our most typical dishes made with local products. Make a reservation at Ca Parra or Restaurant Avenida for good rice, fish or meat or at La pizzeria Cosa Nostra or Arrels and delight your palate with the most exquisite flavors of Italian food fused with Valencian food.

FINISH THE AFTERNOON WITH AN ICE CREAM OR A LEMON WATER

The most famous ice cream shop in the region was born in the 1920s and continues to keep its traditions and recipes alive. Something also very typical from here is their “Clotxina de gelat”.

You won’t see this peculiar way of eating ice cream anywhere else. These shell-shaped ice cream wafers are a draw in the town’s ice cream parlor. You can fill them with the ice cream you like the most or even combine two. We also recommend trying their famous “lemon water.”
