When spring arrives, Gata de Gorgos transforms. There’s no need for processions or grand events to feel that we’re in a special time. Here, Easter is lived in our own way: with the taste of mona, the smell of firewood, and laughter shared in the mountains or the countryside. Because if there’s one thing that defines us as a town, it’s our way of celebrating the simplest… and most authentic things. And that, truly, is a luxury.

Mona and Pa Socarrat: essentials in every home

At Easter, Gata’s families keep the tradition of eating mona with a hard-boiled egg or pa socarrat, a rustic, slightly toasted bread that has always been with us. It’s not just food; it’s a ritual. It’s the perfect excuse to pack a bag, grab a deck of cards, and spend the day by the Gorgos river, in the mountains overlooking Montgó, or in any of our cherished local spots.

Sharing a mona in the sun, with good views and even better company, is one of those little things that make life feel big. One of those moments that remind us again: Gata is a luxury.

The Easter berenaret

Older generations still remember the famous “berenaret de Pascua,” when they would head to the hills with friends, on old bikes, a jug of fresh water, and a good Easter sausage — the kind you can only find in our local butcher shops. Even today, Gata’s butchers still make these artisanal sausages with the same know-how, using time-honoured recipes passed down from generation to generation.

Shopping locally — knowing who makes your food, how they make it, and the love they put into it — is also part of enjoying the luxury of the everyday. The luxury of a living, authentic village.

Ca la Tramussera: the return of good weather

Another unmistakable sign that Easter has arrived is that Ca la Tramussera, our most traditional ice cream shop, opens its doors once again. Some say the first ice cream of the season tastes like happiness — and they’re not wrong.

Stopping at Ca la Tramussera after a walk or a day in the countryside is like stepping back into childhood: intense flavour, real texture, and that feeling of early summer in the air. These are the kinds of things that only happen in towns like ours. Towns where life is still unhurried. Gata is a luxury, because it keeps alive what many others have already lost.

A different Easter — but deeply ours

In Gata, Easter isn’t a celebration full of showy decoration. It’s a quiet but deeply meaningful celebration. It’s about reconnecting with family, lifelong friends, childhood flavours, and the places that only we know. It’s feeling that even though the years pass, some things never change.

Because living the way we live, eating what we eat, sharing how we share… that’s not just anything. It’s a luxury. Gata is a luxury.

So, if you still haven’t tasted the mona from the local bakery, or stopped by Ca la Tramussera for that first ice cream… what are you waiting for? Easter is now, and in Gata, it’s lived just like always — with heart, with flavour, and with lots and lots of love.
