In Gata #LoTípic it’s the train and it’s finally back!
In 2016, this route was stopped in order to modernize all the structures and works were carried out on the entire Line 9 that linked Benidorm with Denia. After 6 years without this service, the train works again in Gata de Gorgos.
New techniques and infrastructures have been added with the aim of improving the quality of the service and guaranteeing its regularity and which has had an investment of more than 150 million euros.
After several months of tests and the training of the train drivers for the new facilities and trains, on January 16, 2023, it was put back into operation to the delight of the residents of La Marina.
GATA TRAIN STATION
The Alicante Metropolitan TRAM passenger transport network was put into service in 1915. This network initially started to transport merchandise such as raisins and wine that was produced so much in the area. As these crops gradually disappeared and due to the boom in tourism on the Costa Blanca, it was decided that the line would focus exclusively on passenger transport.
The Gata station has a special charm, it is very close to the core of craft shops, where you can buy a very “made in Gata” detail. Since everything is at hand in Gata, you can get off the train and see the town in one day, stroll through its landscapes or the river and take a sample of its sausages and typical sweets.
Gata station also had the privilege of seeing the first tourist train in Spain go by: El limón Express. The idea came from the British David A. G. Simpson, who lived in Benidorm and who, with this revolutionary idea in Spain, would manage to save this line that was almost about to close, creating a successful tourist train. The last trips of this train were in 2005 and to this day we do not know if they will put them into operation again.

STOP IN GATA DE GORGOS
Gata is a town full of crafts that, for many years, marked the way of life thanks to all the factories that existed. It came to have 10 hat factories, two guitar factories, seven handbag factories and one furniture factory, among many others. In addition, it is a beautiful town full of life through which to walk and get lost for a few hours.

⏰TRAIN TIMETABLE IN GATA
You can take the first train in Gata towards Denia at 6:30 in the morning and then it will go every hour to and 24. The last train to Denia will be at 10:16 p.m.
To go to Benidorm, the first train in the morning will be at 06:04. and so every hour until 9:04 p.m. After this, there will be one last ride at 9:54 p.m. address Benidorm.
