In Gata, a typical thing are the Tapas

At Gata, what we love is getting together! There is nothing we like more than meeting friends for afternoon beer and ending up having a tapas dinner.

We tell you what three tapas you have to try if you come to Gata.

The “pilota de putxero”

Putxero is one of the most popular recipes in Valencian cuisine. This dish is perfect for cold winter days when you need to warm up. What differentiates it from other stews in the rest of Spain is its famous “pilota de putxero”.

This delicacy is made up of minced meat, breadcrumbs, egg, spices to taste and grated lemon. Many wrap it with cabbage and just give it the perfect touch.

If you come, you have to try it and decide for yourself if it is the best or not.

Cocas

Cocas are one of our star recipes! The basic recipe is with flour, water, oil, yeast and salt, but you will never find an equal recipe. Here, the hands and experience of each person who is kneading this delight will make the difference. In the end, the dough will be between soft and crunchy and will be completed with different toppings such as onion and black pudding, field herbs, prawns and chard, peas with onion and egg or simply an anchovy.

The original recipe is cooked in a wood oven but today you can make them at home with conventional ovens and they are just as good.

So, don’t hesitate to order this tapa so you don’t leave without trying it!

Bakeries also make them every day so you can take them away for lunch or dinner.

Snails

In many places in the Mediterranean, this is also a typical tapa.

Years ago, when it rained, it was typical for children and grandparents to go out to look for snails so that they could later be used in rice dishes or stews.

One of the best known recipes for a stew is with onion, pepper, garlic, tomato and the star ingredient; fennel. These recipes can vary since there are a thousand and one ways to cook them in sauce.

Write them all down on your list and don’t forget to ask for them when you come to eat at Gata.

Some of the bars where you can find a wide variety of all of them are El Bar España, Bar Corder, Ca Martí or Bar l’Estació.
